Choosing a Quality Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplement

When it comes to fish oils, there are many products on the market. Anyone can throw a superlative in front of their product and say they have the " best fish oil " or a " super omega 3 fish oil ".

Fish Vitamins

But using terms like " super omega 3 " are nonsense.

Fish Vitamins

There are good and bad products to be sure, but you don't determine this just by saying something is great, super, or the best.

You determine it by looking objectively at the facts and the product label, and also taking into account the cost of the product.

Let's face it, there are many good products on the market. I hesitate in saying something is the best because it sounds like hype. The reality is, if you do your homework, you can get the benefits of omega 3 fish oil from many products.

In the end, of course, you will choose one product to take like I have personally done. You just need to make sure you are making a wise choice and not buying one of the lesser products on the market that may not give you the value for money or omega 3 fish oil health benefits you desire.

So, now that we have dispelled the nonsense about so called ' super omega 3 fish oil ' let's look at the facts.

Any good product should be molecularly distilled. This is a process by which toxins are separated from the oils. This leaves the beneficial fish oils, which are then encapsulated in a product to be used.

Like it or not, the healthiest fish is fatty fish, and fatty fish have a tendency to build up toxins in their flesh from pollution in the world's water systems. This is now a well known fact.

After molecular distillation, the next most important thing to look for is DHA and EPA breakdown. Some products may tell you there is a certain amount of omega 3 in the product per serving, but they don't tell you the DHA and EPA breakdown.

DHA and EPA are two specific types of omega 3 fats found in fish oils. And it's important you know how much of each you are getting.

Many studies now are showing DHA to be more beneficial than EPA, especially for brain health, so if your product has more EPA than DHA but you don't know it because they don't give the exact ratios, then that's a problem. Maybe they aren't telling you the ratios on purpose.

Another thing to look for is a little bit of Vitamin E in the product. This is because fish oil has a tendency to go rancid quickly. A little bit of Vitamin E added to the product can stave off rancidity for quite a while, keeping your product fresh for the duration of its use.

You may want to consider a product that is easy to swallow. If it's difficult to swallow and you stop using the product, you miss out on all the health benefits. I have personally found that softgels are the easiest form to swallow because they are, well, soft....and pliable.

I am really terrible when it comes to swallowing pills or capsules....so this is a big issue for me.

Lastly is the issue of cost. You can buy a good high quality product from anywhere between to dollars a month.

There are certainly many more expensive products on the market but this doesn't make them better. It just makes them a rip off. Anytime you come across a brand where you are paying for a brand name or the name of a fancy doctor on it, you are most likely overpaying because a lot of extra cost of the product is to pay for the brand, the marketing, or the endorsement of a celebrity or doctor.

Now that you know what to look for, you are in a better position to pick a quality product and start obtaining the myriad health benefits of omega 3 fish oil.
